No plastic.
Just ice.

Good days start with a full chilly bin. We’re developing self-service ice machines that dispense straight into yours—without the single-use ice bag.

BRING YOUR BIN. FILL UP. GET OUT THERE.

LESS PACKAGING. MORE ADVENTURE.

Your chilly bin. Our ice.

01

Bring your chilly bin

Bring a clean, reusable chilly bin ready for a day on the water, at the campsite or around the BBQ.

02

Choose, tap, fill

Our planned self-service system lets you choose your quantity, pay by card and dispense ice directly into your bin.

03

Head out, bag-free

Take the ice you need, with no empty ice bag left to throw away.

We’re still developing the service. Quantities, pricing, payment options and operating hours will be confirmed before launch.

PREVENT WASTE AT THE START

The best ice bag is the one you never need.

Recycling has a role to play. We want to remove the need for the bag in the first place. By making it easy to refill the chilly bin you already own, Reel Ice aims to reduce demand for single-use ice packaging.

9%

of plastic waste worldwide was ultimately recycled in 2019.

22 million

tonnes of plastic leaked into the environment globally in 2019.

Source: OECD Global Plastics Outlook (2022), global estimates for 2019.

These global figures describe the wider plastic problem, not Reel Ice’s impact. Our focus is avoiding single-use ice bags; making ice still uses water and electricity.

Small refills. Less packaging.

For example, filling up with 15 kg of loose ice instead of buying five 3 kg bags would avoid five bags for that purchase. This is an illustration, not a measured result. Once operating, we plan to track ice dispensed and estimate packaging avoided using verified bag weights.

BORN FOR THE COAST

No plastic. Just ice.

TWO COASTAL UPBRINGINGS. ONE SHARED PURPOSE.

A life on the water. A reason to protect it.

Noah Bramwell

Noah grew up in South Auckland before moving to Nelson and later making Picton home for many years. Working both on the water and beneath the surface throughout the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, he developed a deep connection to the coastline and the life it supports. That work also brought him face to face with plastic pollution in our waterways and ocean. Seeing it first-hand sparked a lasting determination to find practical ways to reduce the plastic entering the places he loves.

Brodie Sergeant

Brodie grew up in Whitianga, where surfing, fishing and diving were part of everyday life. Like Noah, he has spent years working above and below the water, turning a lifelong connection with the ocean into his working life. For both founders, the coast is more than somewhere to spend the weekend—it is where they work, explore and feel at home.

Reel Ice grew from that shared connection and a simple question: why wrap ice in a single-use plastic bag when it can go straight into a chilly bin? We’re building a practical alternative that makes reducing packaging part of an ordinary day out. We can’t solve ocean plastic pollution on our own, but we can give people one less plastic bag to use—and one more reason to refill.

OUR NEXT CHAPTER · LATE 2027

Two machines. One bag-free mission.

We aim to bring two Reel Ice machines to market by late 2027—giving Kiwis a simpler way to fill up for the day ahead.
